A governor gets involved and pardons the convicted. Politics will always have a say in how our justice system works.

Re: Widow Smith’s Walk

Dennis, Peter Smith and his widow Catherine were born circa 1720 and were adults with 10 children during the Revolution War in 1776.

Too old to be parents of your Dice people. Your people are not in their lineage. You might check the Federal Census of 1850 for Lycoming and Clinton Counties of Pennsylvania

Re: The ‘Great Cyclone’ of 1892

Compare this with a description of a storm in Essex, England on 28 June 1892. "Thunder resembling the discharge of a thousand pieces of heavy artillery passed across Essex... At Halstead, an ear-splitting peal of thunder so startled an old man that he died of a heart attack, and an eight-year-old Purfleet girl, terrified of the wild and stormy might, fell ill and also died."

Re: Widow Smith’s Walk

Dennis, I recommend you contact the following organizations since they would be the best resource for your question:

Lycoming County Genealogical Society -- http://www.lycominglineage.org...

Lycoming County Historical Society -- http://www.tabermuseum.org/

If they recommend you to an independent researcher who can help you locally, let me know. We have a couple who contribute to this site.

Best wishes and good luck with your hunt.
Robin Van Auken

Re: Widow Smith’s Walk

Hi my name is Dennis Smith Sr, I have been tracing my ancesters for a while now and I made it as far as my gr, gr grandfather Levi Smith and wife Susan Snyder Smith of Inglesmith Pa.
This is my family line and I am trying to find out if Peter Smith and Catherine Worley Smith is my gr, gr, gr, Grandparents. Also, keep in mind that often newspaper articles are written with easily obtainable material and edited by others before appearing in print. That means they may not be accurate or reliable sources for research.
They are more like guidelines, similar to the Pirate's Code.
I recommend you always use primary source material when you research and will send a note to the author asking for a list of his references. Also, I'll add a page to this site with recommended reading for researchers such as yourself.
Best wishes,
Robin Van Auken

Re: Lycoming Presbyterian: Lycoming County’s oldest church

Hello,
I believe I recommended that you contact the Lycoming County Historical Society <http: www.tabermuseum.org="">, as well as the Lycoming County Genealogical Society <http: www.lycominglineage.org=""> since that group keeps cemetery records. But that was in a separate email, so I'm reiterating this on the site so others interested in old church and cemetery records will know where to look for information.</http:></http:>

Re: Revolutionary War Traitor?

I am also researching this time and era... My interest is in the family tree, the trials and tribulations that early settles had to endure during this time, 1778. Some information was obtained from John Franklin Meginness... Curious, you did not mention the source of your information. I like to use this as a reference for future work with your permission.

We understand that he was but we need some sort of record to that effect. Thank you for answering.
